...which prepared him for a career making pottery, playing music, farming and earning enough money to pay for all his hobbies, plus raise four children who all became potters and musicians.

Al makes pottery and banjos at the All in One Pottery off of Mount Olive Church Road. Al’s science background in pharmacy fed naturally into the chemistry of clay, glazes, and firings.

He is the “master” of crystalline glazes. Hand-painted pieces show the intricacies and finesse of Renaissance Italian majolica. Al and his wife Louise Hobbs now concentrate on RakuSaggar and Primitive firings.  Al was a founder of Dover Pottery in Seagrove.  Al no longer practices Pharmacy and that allows him to devote all his time to play!
