Thank You!

© Christie Minchew 2014
Thank You to everyone who came to ArtBrake! and made it such a fun and successful weekend.  The travelled-farthest award went to an Arizonian. It was great having friends and family stop by and wonderful to meet new folks who were here for the first time.  We really appreciate it.

In the Woodshop today

Chuck Minchew's end-grain cutting boards start something like this....

and, after much finagling, get glued-up, sanded...

and finished with a beautiful, food-safe finish.
Chuck first cuts wood in a variety of dimensions that he has decided are optimal for these cutting board designs.  For each cutting board, he culls his blocks for ones that will compliment each other, and figures out the best design for those blocks.  He often uses 2 blocks side-by-side in a 'butterflied' match to make a striking pattern.  The woods include oak, maple, cherry, walnut, ash, elm...and maybe some others.  Most of the woods are local.

Father Son ...but not routine

© Darren Powers 2014
Darren Powers (a.k.a. Johnny Glaze) sometimes enlists the help of his son Owen for something completely different.  But even when Darren is in a non-collaborative mode, his pieces are absolutely fabulous.  I'm rather biased, though.  I have 3 pieces already!

Tamera Cooke is, well, Cookin'!

©  Tamera Cooke 2014
Tamera has some fabulous jewelry made of various metals and stones.  Some of her wire is flat that she sourced from Ecuador when she lived there a couple of years ago.
After recently having wrist surgery, she turned lemons into lemonade and started working in paper.  No photos yet, but given her metal art, I can't wait to see what she's done.
She'll be at Stop #2 with Dick Seed (another art-treat to see!)
